There was a key turning point when the farm/hotel owners, for a number of reasons, decided to change the main material from bamboo to metallic tubes. We call "participatory design" when the architect interprets the local desires and aspirations. Even though we know that bamboo, for this case, is better practically in every sense, we faced a strong paradigm and resistance for utilization of bamboo, even in rural China, where bamboo is incredibly abundant. However, we also believe that the utilization of wonderful bamboo does not rely in an isolated project; instead is a mindset that still developing through a number of projects.
